"The Last Surrender"

This painting depicts the arrival in Liverpool of the Confederate raider CSS Shenandoah on November 7, 1865.  It is here, on the River Mersey, several months after the end of the US Civil War, that she will strike her colours and effectively become that last Confederate combatant to surrender.
