‘The First Away’
This shows the takeoff of the first B-25 bomber, flown by Doolittle himself, as it leaves the deck of the USS Hornet in the face of gale force winds in what will come to be known as the Doolittle Raid. It will be the first strike against the Japanese home islands by the US in world war II. Other ships of the mission are in the background, including the USS Enterprise and Vincennes.
